SDF

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a non-invasive treatment that helps slow or halt the progression of tooth decay. SDF does not always prevent the need for a future filling, but it can delay and potentially eliminate the need for treatment in some cases. It is a quick and simple application that is painless and easy for small children to tolerate.

SMART Restorations

SMART restorations are a minimally invasive dental technique that utilize SDF and a bioactive filling material to restore a tooth without the need for anesthesia or traditional dentistry.

White (Resin) Restorations

White resin fillings match your child’s natural tooth color. The cavity is removed from their tooth and the resin restoration is placed and set with a specialized curing light. These restorations are also used to repair chipped teeth due to trauma and can be used to help repair small esthetic concerns.

Crowns

When a tooth has a large cavity, a crown may be recommended. The cavity is removed, and then a crown is glued over the tooth, covering the whole surface. There are a few different types of crown materials including stainless steel, composite, zirconia and polycarbonate resin.

Hall Crowns

Hall crowns are a non-invasive way to treat decayed primary teeth without anesthesia. A stainless steel crown is placed over the tooth to seal and stop decay, offering a quick and effective solution with minimal discomfort.

Cosmetic Bonding

Perfect for repairing chipped or misshaped teeth, cosmetic bonding uses tooth-colored materials to restore your child’s smile seamlessly.

Microabrasion

This minimally invasive procedure effectively removes small discolorations and surface stains, revealing a cleaner, brighter smile.

ICON

A minimally invasive dental treatment that stops early tooth decay and improves white spot lesions. It uses a resin to seal affected enamel without drilling or removing healthy tooth structure, offering a conservative and aesthetic solution.

Pulp Treatment

Pulp treatment is used when the cavity has progressed into the nerve of your child’s tooth. When a cavity reaches the nerve, it can lead to pain and infection. Pulp treatment removes the infected or damaged nerve from a tooth and replaces it with MTA (a bioactive and biocompatible material) Then a filling or crown is placed, restoring form and function to your child’s smile.

Extractions

Most teeth can be saved with our restorative techniques, but sometimes removal of your child’s tooth is necessary to restore their mouth to optimal health or for orthodontic reasons. We offer gentle extractions here in our office for our patients.

Frequently Asked Questions About Restorative Dentistry

Is restorative dentistry safe for children?

Yes, absolutely. All our restorative treatments are designed with safety and comfort in mind. We use child-friendly materials and techniques to ensure a gentle, effective experience.

What age group do you provide restorative dentistry services for?

We offer restorative treatments for children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. Our care is tailored to the specific needs of each age group.

What can I do to prevent the need for restorative dentistry?

Strong oral hygiene habits and regular dental check-ups are key to preventing the need for restorative treatments. Our team can provide tips and guidance for maintaining your child’s oral health.

Does insurance cover restorative dentistry for children?

Many restorative treatments are partially or fully covered by dental insurance. Please contact our office, and we’ll be happy to help you understand your coverage.

Can parents stay with their child during the appointment?

Absolutely! We welcome parents to accompany their children throughout the visit to provide reassurance and to educate parents on how to best help their child achieve optimal oral health.

Are the materials used safe for children?

Yes, we use biocompatible materials that are safe for children, including resin fillings and glass ionomers. If you have any questions or concerns regarding dental materials, please call the office and we will be happy to provide you with additional information.

Why is it important to treat primary (baby) teeth?

Primary teeth play a crucial role in a child's oral development, including proper chewing, speech development, and maintaining space for the permanent teeth. Not every baby tooth with a cavity needs a filling, but untreated cavities can lead to pain, infection and impact the development of permanent teeth. Treating these teeth when necessary can prevent long-term dental issues and protect your child's overall oral health.

Is cosmetic bonding safe for children?

Yes, cosmetic bonding is a safe and effective way to enhance your child's smile. It requires little to no enamel removal, making it a minimally invasive option for minor cosmetic concerns.

How long does cosmetic bonding last?

With proper care, cosmetic bonding can last several years. However, your child should avoid biting on hard objects like ice or pencils to prevent chipping or damage.

What types of stains can microabrasion remove?

Microabrasion is most effective for removing surface stains caused by fluorosis, minor enamel defects, and discoloration from food or drinks.

Who is a good candidate for ICON treatment?

ICON is ideal for children with early-stage cavities or white spot lesions caused by braces, demineralization, or mild fluorosis.
